RUN, becasue you CAN!

“The men who have succeeded are the ones who have chosen one line and stuck on it”
I read from page 28 to page 100 today. The story now sets into his start-up finally starting up. Varun along with his friend visit Tirupur-the T-shirt capital of India and finally establishes a deal with the shop-keeper and agrees to pay him once he receives the samples. Here they were, on the brink of a major decision. If they told him “yes”, they stood a chance of losing 4lahk and if they told ”no”, they went back to their insignificant lives. The shop-keeper dint seem interested but like their enthusiasm. On their way back, they thought of 2 names ”lemontee” and “backbenchers” .in between, he clearly quotes that the aunties of India have mastered the fine art of negotiation with the vegetable sellers and greatest MBA schools can learn the tricks of trade from them. The thought provoking and hearty inspiring sentences were:”if you’re so desperate for a job, then create one. If everyone foolishly limits himself to a single line of track and border himself with walls, then how is this country going to have any entrepreneurs.” They decide to sell their samples in the alumnus of bishop cottons boys’ school and sell over 500 pullovers and decide to change their company name to “the alma mater” to make it sound professional. They then set up e-commerce to spread their company far and wide. Meanwhile, he attends the interview set up by Anu aunty just to ensure his mother isn’t hurt.

“Depression is the inability to construct future whereas Enthusiasm is the supreme luxury of a better future”. You and only you govern your life and the first and the best victory is to conquer self. There is absolutely no upshot by mere sulking, cribbing and being depressed. If you want some changes, then be the change you want to see in the world. Victory is the sweetest when you have known defeat and a man may learn wisdom even from a foe. It’s important to be positive and not let the anger or the grief have power over you. Here I would like to quote a sentence from the book “The alchemist” by Paulo Coelho ;”If you aim to do something with you full heart, then the whole universe conspires into making it happen”

When you know it’s the right time, it’s the angel inside you that’s whispering and the angel is never wrong because it’s born only when you are certain you are doing the right thing. So go for it!”

Page 1-25 of "How i braved Anu aunty and co-founded a million dollar company"

Well, now I understand why all youngsters love this book. In the beginning of the book he says “Thank you Mom for your support and if you are reading this, please don’t read further, you know I love you” adding a little humor and making the readers laugh silently before starting the novel.

The book starts with the chapter named “He Got Only 95 per cent, Ya” wherein the author tells about his mother’s friend “anu aunty” who is cribbing about her son not doing well and getting only 95% .in the contrast, varun has scored just average and his mother has no words to tell. So I think in this whole book anu aunty is the villain or a negative energy in his life. He explains about how anu aunty always comes to his house only to brag about herself and her son. She keeps telling about her son’s promotion in his company, how well he plays violin and how obedient he is. Whereas, varun in the other end has no job, plays no music, has made some short movies which anu aunty tells is no-use, and doesn’t obey his parents.

He explains about Bangalore, it’s beautiful weather amidst traffic, it workers all over, how important is weekends and how friends meet up in the weekends ,discuss about their work, recollect old memories, miss them together and have lot of fun.

On one of the weekends when his friends assemble, one of his friends tells him that he has got an extremely good GMAT score and Varun tells his friend who works in KPMG about his plan of starting a company which sells pullovers to school with the school logo on it and his friend is very impressed by it.Later when Varun tells anu aunty’s husband that he is planning to start a company, he mocks at him and asks him to search a job instead of waste time in non-sense.

What I learnt out of this is that have the ability to dream. Even when the whole world discourages you, never let your dreams die. Don’t worry about what others talk. Be crazy enough to think different and move away from the normal line of life. Even when everyone around you stop you, get up and keep walking.

You and only you should protect your dream and never let it die

Book 1 introduction:"How i Braved Anu Aunty and cofounded a million dollar company"

“Coming back to Bangalore, India's Silicon Valley, that smoother road seems like a mirage. Bangalore is entering a mature new phase as a technology center by starting to produce its own high-tech products, research, venture capital firms and start-ups.”- Thomas Loren Friedman (American journalist, columnist and author)

I couldn’t think of a better book on entrepreneurship and leading to begin with than the one written by a very chilled out young “Namma Bengaloore” boy, Mr. Varun Agarwal  and the book being “How I Braved Anu aunty and co-founded a million dollar company”

Mr. Varun Agarwal is an entrepreneur, BE graduate, film maker and an author(sounds exciting already) who has 3 companies under his name; Alma Mater, Reticular, Last minute Films. I read about the author the first time in facebook in his own page “Alma Mater” which I had liked only because their page looked colorful and the quotes on the photos of t-shirts and pull over were thought provoking with a sense of humor. Example:”SHIFT us the CTRL and see how we ALT the world”-on a computer science engineering student pullover, “I don’t know what I am doing but I am damn good at it”- a t-shirt quote.

I am sure this book will inspire me, teach me how to pursue my dreams, make me love what I do more and assist me lead..
